Navigating the NTSB's Asiana Airlines Crash Investigation

NLJ: How did the NTSB investigation unfold? What happened first? 

SULEIMAN: In any NTSB investigation, the agency sends out what’s called a “go” team immediately after an incident, whether it’s a pipeline explosion or an airplane crash or a derailment. One of the things they did in this case was within two or three days of the accident, they interviewed the pilots, all of whom had survived, which is extremely rare. 

All interviewees in an NTSB case are allowed to have a ‘personal representative’ during the interview. We didn’t get involved until 10 days or two weeks after the crash happened, which was ¬≠significant. 

The pilot flying the plane [Lee Kang Guk] did have a representative that was provided for him, somebody who worked for [Air Line Pilots Association], the airline union, but it wasn’t a lawyer who was representing the company.
