Brexit Summit

December 15, 2017, Sky News

Lord Francis Maude appeared on Sky News to discuss phase two of the Brexit negotiation process. "Well it's good news it's progressing," says Maude. He added, however, that it is not going to be easy as there is a lot to discuss, and it will take time.

Maude also said that he believes the process can be more cordial now. "I think…in the early days, there was a lot of bruised emotions on the EU side and the sense that the UK might be thought to have…turned its back on Europe. I think what our colleagues and friends in the EU are now seeing is that Britain is genuinely really committed to remaining in Europe, if not in the EU, and wanting to be a really good partner and neighbor and friend to the EU 27. And that, I think, has always been the case, but I think it's taken a little time for some of the emotions at the early stages to calm down.
