Nancy Kestenbaum, Chief of the General Crimes Unit in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, to Join Covington & Burling

December 3, 2003

NEW YORK, NY, December 3, 2003 - Covington & Burling announced today that Nancy Kestenbaum will join the firm as a partner.  Ms. Kestenbaum most recently served as the Chief of the General Crimes Unit in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, where she has been an Assistant United States Attorney since 1994.

Ms. Kestenbaum will be resident in Covington's New York office and joins the firm's White Collar Defense and Trial Practice Groups effective January 2004.

"Nancy has built a strong reputation during her career in the U.S. Attorney's Office and is highly regarded among the white collar bar in New York City," said Stuart Stock, Chairman of the firm's Management Committee.  "Our litigation and trial practice in New York is extremely busy, and Nancy's addition to the practice will significantly enhance our ability to handle major white collar defense matters and complex trial representations for our clients."

Ms. Kestenbaum stated, "I'm excited and honored to be joining Covington.  I look forward to working with the firm's exceptionally talented group of white collar defense and trial lawyers."

Ms. Kestenbaum is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and Yale Law School.  After clerking for Judge Kimba M. Wood in the Southern District of New York, Ms. Kestenbaum was a litigation associate at Howard, Darby & Levin for three years before joining the U.S. Attorney's Office in 1994.

Covington & Burling's white collar defense practice in New York and across the firm continues to be sought out for its expertise in handling internal investigations, criminal fraud investigations and regulatory enforcement matters.  The practice is led in New York by Aaron R. Marcu, formerly the Associate United States Attorney for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, and Alan Vinegrad, formerly the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.
