Covington Advises Hanesbrands in Spin-Off from Sara Lee


WASHINGTON, D.C., September 29, 2006   Covington represented Hanesbrands Inc. in its recent spin-off from the Sara Lee Corporation.  Hanesbrands began trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol HBI on September 6. The company, headquartered in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is a leading marketer of innerwear, outerwear, and hosiery.  Its brands include Hanes, Champion, Playtex, Bali, Just My Size, barely there, and Wonderbra.  Hanesbrands generated $4.5 billion in net sales in its 2006 fiscal year.

Covington’s corporate team was led by partners David Martin and Catherine Dargan.  Other team members included: Keir Gumbs (corporate); Michael Francese, Julie Edmond, and Katherine Gongora (employee benefits); Edward West (real estate); Lee Tiedrich and Kristina Rosette (intellectual property); and Robert Heller (tax).
