Covington Advises Merrill Lynch on PerkinElmer Deal


NEW YORK, NY, October 1, 2007 — PerkinElmer, Inc. and ViaCell, Inc. today announced the signing of a definitive agreement under which PerkinElmer will acquire ViaCell for approximately $300 million. Covington & Burling LLP advised Merrill Lynch & Co., financial advisor to PerkinElmer, on the transaction, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2007.

ViaCell is a biotechnology company dedicated to enabling the widespread application of human cells as medicine.
