Covington Advises Legendary Batman Artist in Deal with DC Comics

WASHINGTON, DC, November 14, 2007 — Covington & Burling LLP represented legendary comic book artist Jerry Robinson in arranging a creative consultancy agreement with DC Comics, the largest English-language publisher of comics in the world. Mr. Robinson was a key contributor during the early years of the Batman comic book series, and played a vital role in the introduction of legendary characters including The Joker, Robin, Alfred, and The Penguin. As part of this agreement, DC Comics engaged Mr. Robinson to provide consulting services for the upcoming Warner Bros. Batman movie entitled “The Dark Knight.”

“I am delighted to be affiliated with DC Comics, my alma mater, as a creative consultant,” said Mr. Robinson. “Along with working with their talented writers and artists, I’m especially looking forward to being reunited with the feature and characters I first got involved with as a college student in 1939.”

Covington intellectual property lawyers Bert Wells, Ron Dove and Matt DelNero advised Mr. Robinson in his business arrangement with DC Comics.
