Covington Adds Two Partners to Washington Tax Group

WASHINGTON, DC, July 15, 2008 — Covington & Burling LLP is pleased to announce that Sam Maruca and Dan Luchsinger have joined the firm as tax partners. Both will reside in the firm’s Washington office.

Reeves Westbrook, chair of Covington’s tax practice, commented: “Sam and Dan are top-flight international tax lawyers. Sam’s exceptional experience in managing transfer pricing controversies and Dan’s extensive expertise in multinational structuring are a perfect fit with our existing practices in those areas. They will significantly boost the ability of our team of senior lawyers in Washington, New York, and London to handle the very large matters we are seeing from our clients.”

Mr. Maruca has practiced exclusively in the area of federal income tax for more than 25 years. His practice focuses on the representation of US and foreign-based multinationals in transfer-pricing disputes and other cross-border tax controversies. The clients he has represented span the pharmaceutical, biotech, communications, specialty materials, and retail sectors.

Mr. Luchsinger has practiced in the tax field for more than 15 years. His focus is on assisting US multinationals in the structuring of joint ventures, acquisitions, and dispositions. An adjunct professor of partnership taxation at Georgetown University, he is one of a handful of tax lawyers nationally recognized as an expert in both international and partnership taxation.

“This is an outstanding opportunity,” said Mr. Maruca. “I’ve long admired Covington. The firm’s base of clients is second to none, and I look forward to serving them.”

“Covington, with its outstanding reputation and tradition of partner collegiality, is the perfect platform for expanding my practice,” added Mr. Luchsinger. “My new tax colleagues are among the best in the field, and I am proud to join their ranks.”

Covington’s tax lawyers provide a full range of tax services, with a special focus on the efficient and successful resolution of tax controversies, complex international tax planning, the taxation of financial products, sports industry taxation, and legislative and regulatory advocacy. Covington’s tax practice and a number of its tax partners have repeatedly been recognized in Chambers USA, The Best Lawyers in America, and The Legal 500 US.
