Covington Again Receives Top Rating by HRC

WASHINGTON, DC, September 14, 2009 — Covington & Burling LLP is pleased to announce that it has earned the top rating of 100 percent in the 2010 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), an annual survey administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Covington’s 100% rating reflects its written non-discrimination policy; sexual orientation and gender identity training; support for same-sex partners of employees with health insurance, bereavement and family leave policies; and its contribution to LGBTQ community organizations.

“Even in an economic environment that has presented new challenges for lawyers in private practice, the nation’s largest and most prestigious law firms have only stepped up their commitment to recruiting and retaining a diverse group of attorneys and staff,” said HRC Foundation President Joe Solmonese.

Tim Hester, chair of Covington’s management committee, said: “At Covington, we recognize that the job of promoting diversity is never complete. We strive not just to keep pace with our peers, but rather to lead by example and continue raising the bar for our entire profession.”
