Covington Advises The Washington Post Company on Sale of Newsweek

WASHINGTON, DC, August 2, 2010 — The Washington Post Company has today announced its agreement to sell Newsweek to a company owned by Dr. Sidney Harman, the founder and chairman emeritus of Harman International. Covington & Burling LLP advised The Washington Post Company on the transaction. The terms of the sale have not been announced.

The Washington and New York based Covington team was led by corporate partner Michael Cutler, with associates Jonas Marson, Edward Tsai and Vishnu Shankar. Also advising on the transaction were partner Michael Francese and associate Katherine Mineka (employment), special counsel Kristina Rosette (intellectual property), partner Rob Heller and associate Rucia Pei (tax), and partner James O’Connell (antitrust).
