Covington Named ‘Sports, Media & Entertainment Team of the Year’

LONDON, December 16, 2010 — Covington & Burling LLP has been named the "Sports, Media & Entertainment Team of the Year 2010" by Intellectual Property Magazine in recognition of the firm’s contribution to promoting and protecting the sports and entertainment-related IP rights of its clients. The award recognises Covington’s work over the past year, which has included helping the National Football League (NFL) to prevent the unauthorised online streaming of live NFL games, including the Super Bowl, one of the world's most popular sporting events. Covington is also helping nearly half of the world’s top 15 largest publishing groups combat the growing threat of online piracy.

Covington’s global Internet enforcement capability is key to its success in this space. Covington's global Internet enforcement team includes both lawyers experienced with the laws and practical enforcement considerations across the globe, and an in-house team of Internet investigators with years of experience in conducting online monitoring, evidence gathering, and notice and takedown services for the firm's clients, using advanced proprietary online forensic tools.

Covington was also shortlisted for the 2010 award for excellence in Domain Name Strategy.

Intellectual Property Magazine Awards are judged by an independent expert panel of key industry figures and seek to recognise excellence in IP protection across the world.
