Covington Advises NFL on Major Network TV Deal

WASHINGTON, DC, December 15, 2011 — Covington advised the National Football League in negotiating nine-year extensions of its Sunday broadcast television packages with CBS, FOX and NBC networks.

The NFL owners voted to approve the package of TV deals with FOX, CBS and NBC on Wednesday. The new agreements, announced yesterday, run through the 2022 season, and enable the NFL to expand its Thursday night package of games on NFL Network beginning next year.

Flexible scheduling -- which gives teams a chance to play their way onto primetime on NBC and into the late-afternoon 4:15 PM ET time slot on CBS and FOX -- will be expanded in 2014, including the ability to move games between CBS and FOX to bring regional games to wider audiences.

Earlier this year, Covington advised the NFL in its eight-year extension to keep Monday Night Football on ESPN through the 2021 season.

The Washington-based Covington team included partners Doug Gibson, Jeremy Spector, Gregg Levy, Tom Barnett and Jennifer Johnson, and associates Leah Graham and Caitlyn Jacobs.
