Covington’s Haslam Named a California Attorney of the Year

REDWOOD SHORES, CA, February 17, 2012 California Lawyer magazine has announced that Covington & Burling’s Robert Haslam will receive a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year Award.

The publication named 56 lawyers from around the state as recipients of the 16th annual CLAY Awards, which recognize those whose achievements had a significant impact in 2011.

Mr. Haslam, resident in the firm’s Silicon Valley office, is being honored in the Intellectual Property category for his work representing Huawei Technologies in a trade secret misappropriation and conspiracy lawsuit.

Mr. Haslam successfully represented Huawei Technologies in trade secret litigation initiated by Motorola Solutions, turning the tables and obtaining a preliminary injunction barring Motorola from transferring Huawei’s trade secrets to Nokia Siemens Networks. The litigation involved two federal judges, three of the world’s biggest telecom companies, and some 90 million lines of source code.

“This is a wonderful honor,” Mr. Haslam said. “I had the privilege working with a tremendous team from Covington, and we are all very proud of the result we achieved for our client.”

Mr. Haslam will receive the award at a reception in San Francisco next month. Profiles of the CLAY Award winners will be published in the March 2012 issue of California Lawyer.
