The National Law Journal Names Covington a Top Litigation Firm

June 30, 2015

WASHINGTON, DC, June 30, 2015  — The National Law Journal has selected Covington as one of Washington, D.C.’s top three litigation departments. In naming Covington a finalist for its “Washington Litigation Department of the Year” award, the publication noted that in 2014 Covington’s lawyers “kept the big wins coming.”

The NLJ highlighted a string of Covington victories in its profile of the firm, including Covington’s defense of Samsung Electronics Co. against Motorola Mobility LLC's allegations of price-fixing, representing Hoffman-La Roche Inc. in Accutane litigation, and an appellate victory on behalf of Chiquita Brands International, Inc. in long-running litigation brought by more than six thousand Colombian plaintiffs.
“At Covington, we combine tough, resourceful litigators with government insight and regulatory expertise,” said John Hall, chair of the firm’s litigation practice. “In an era when so many high-stakes disputes - in the U.S. and internationally - are tied to government action, that strategy has proven to be very effective. We are proud to be recognized publicly for the strength of our litigation practice.”

Covington litigators handle novel, complex, and high-stakes disputes, across multiple disciplines and in multiple venues, against both private party litigants and government authorities. In addition to the significant 2014 victories profiled by the NLJ, the firm also secured over $2 billion in compensation and interest for ExxonMobil in one of the largest awards ever obtained against a sovereign state, helped to secure Hewlett Packard’s favorable settlement with SEC and DOJ following a highly publicized FCPA investigation, and on behalf of Samsung, fast-tracked a trial win before the International Trade Commission to protect an array of their most popular devices.

The practice has received multiple awards, including being named a finalist for The American Lawyer’s “Litigation Department of the Year” award in 2014.
