Legal Services Corporation Presents Covington with “Pro Bono Service Award”

October 30, 2015

SILICON VALLEY, October 30, 2015 - The Legal Services Corporation (LSC) has presented Covington its “Pro Bono Service Award” in recognition of the firm’s extraordinary commitment to equal justice through its longstanding support of economically disadvantaged individuals and families through pro bono work with Bay Area Legal Aid (BayLegal).

“Public service is a hallmark of Covington’s culture, and we will continue to devote significant resources to helping those in our communities who do not have access to high quality legal services,” said Emily Henn, a partner in Covington’s Silicon Valley office. “We are honored to have been recognized by The Legal Services Corporation and look forward to our continued partnership with BayLegal.”

Covington has provided pro bono assistance to BayLegal and directly to individual clients for a number of years. Recent projects have included helping consumers access health care services through the Affordable Care Act, assisting a mother affected by domestic violence recover retroactive payments for previously denied financial assistance, and working through the Domestic Violence Collaborative to assist survivors seeking civil restraining orders.

LSC is an independent nonprofit established by Congress in 1974 to provide financial support for civil legal aid to low-income Americans. The Corporation currently provides funding to 134 independent non-profit legal aid programs in every state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. BayLegal is committed to providing meaningful access to the civil justice system through quality legal assistance regardless of a client’s location, language or disability. BayLegal’s clients are low- and very low-income members of our communities. Its clients are spread across the San Francisco Bay Area’s seven county area, from San Francisco to Livermore, Gilroy to Napa.
