April 6, 2020

WASHINGTONStacey Grigsby has joined Covington as a partner in its Commercial Litigation Practice in Washington.

Ms. Grigsby is a stand-up trial lawyer who has drawn upon her experience in the private and public sector to get successful results for clients. She has served as a principal attorney in numerous bench and jury cases involving high stakes disputes in a wide range of subject areas.  She also has substantial appellate experience, having briefed and argued nine federal appeals.  Aside from her active litigation docket, Ms. Grigsby serves as a strategic advisor to clients on litigation matters and government and regulatory investigations.

Ms. Grigsby has advised clients in matters involving pre- and post-award bid protests, government takings, contract disputes and claims, and investigations of alleged misconduct and fraud. She also regularly advises on or litigates matters arising under the Contract Disputes Act, the Competition in Contracting Act, the False Claims Act, the Lanham Act, the Tucker Act, an extensive array of Federal Acquisition Regulation provisions, and state unfair competition laws.

Prior to re-entering private practice in 2014, Ms. Grigsby served for eight years at the U.S. Department of Justice, first as a trial attorney and later as Counsel to the Associate Attorney General. As Counsel to the Associate AG, she advised on a diverse set of department-wide and interagency issues, ranging from civil litigation to proposed regulations to congressional oversight. She assisted in negotiations with banks to resolve a number of civil investigations related to residential mortgage-backed securities and collateralized debt obligations, resulting in historic settlements.

“Stacey will be a valuable addition to our commercial litigation and trial teams and will help us expand a number of our existing client relationships,” said Clara Shin, co-chair of Covington’s Commercial Litigation Practice. "We are lucky to have an accomplished trial lawyer with Stacey's proven track record and loyal client following join our partnership."

“I am excited to join Covington because I have collaborated with several of the firm’s litigators on projects for shared clients and have experienced up close the firm’s unique culture of collaboration and teamwork,” said Ms. Grigsby. “I look forward to helping the firm expand a number of key client relationships and contributing to the firm’s world-class litigation practice.”

Ms. Grigsby graduated from Yale Law School and received her undergraduate degree from Yale College. She previously clerked for the Honorable Alexander Williams, Jr. of the U.S. District Court in Maryland.
