Laura Flahive Wu represents clients in high-stakes complex commercial litigation, with a particular focus on mass torts, contract disputes, class actions, and insurance coverage. Ms. Flahive Wu is known for her ability to successfully take cases from pre-trial through jury verdicts. She is frequently called upon to navigate especially complex cases or to reorient the strategic direction of a case.

  • Serving as trial counsel for a major pharmaceutical distributor in complex, multi-district civil litigation involving parallel state and federal proceedings.
  • Co-led arbitration for mortgage bank in contractual indemnification proceeding. After an arbitration hearing Oklahoma, the arbitrator awarded the bank a total victory, upholding its indemnification claims and setoff of opposing parties' unpaid invoices.
  • Served as co-trial counsel in GSN v. Cablevision, which resulted in a significant victory for our client GSN in a carriage claim against Cablevision after a two-week bench trial.
  • Represented NFL member clubs in a class action brought by retired players involving alleged improper administration of prescription pain medications.
  • Represented the NFL in connection with insurance coverage for concussion-related claims.
  • Represented a group of content companies challenging an order of the Federal Communications Commission that would have resulted in the release of their confidential trade secrets to third parties. The D.C. Circuit first agreed to stay enforcement of the FCC’s order, and then overturned the order on both substantive and procedural grounds.
  • Represented Cox Media Group LLC in contractual indemnification action arising from allegations that the company misrepresented expenditures for a television asset.
  • Represented a major energy company in a securities action arising from allegations that the company overstated the expected returns from its gas wells.
  • Represented targets and acquirers and their officers and directors in merger litigation, including shareholder litigation arising from the acquisition of:
    • Atlas Pipeline Partners, L.P. (representation of the Special Committee of the target);
    • Clinical Data (representation of acquirer Forest Laboratories);
    • Del Monte Corporation (representation of the target); and
    • Arena Resources, Inc. (representation of acquirer SandRidge Energy).

Pro Bono

  • Co-chair Right to Counsel pro bono practice, which provides representation to subsidized tenants facing eviction and homelessness.
  • Secured dismissal of a business conspiracy and defamation case filed against several state legislators and other citizen defendants who had protested a gun store’s opening in their community.
  • Represented victim of terrorist attack in successful defense of defamation suit brought by her ex-husband, securing dismissal of claims.
  • Represented plaintiffs in putative class action regarding police department’s stop, question and frisk policies and procedures, which violate the Fourth Amendment and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
