Tarek Khanachet advises clients across a broad range of complex international regulatory, government affairs and corporate matters focused on Turkey, the Middle East and Gulf States.  From 2011 to 2013 he was resident in Saudi Arabia, advising the Economic Cities Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on regulatory development, as well as outsourcing and licensing transactions.

Mr. Khanachet has extensive experience with government affairs and regulatory matters in the region ‒ advising government entities as well as private companies on matters as diverse as treaty interpretation, trade policy and market access issues and blocks.

  • Advised several multinational companies on regulatory compliance, market access and product blocks in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and the UAE.
  • Advised multinational enterprises on US sanctions, and anti-boycott compliance.
  • Represented an international consortium of airport operators on its bid for the $3.6 billion LaGuardia Central Terminal Building renovation and operation project ‒ New York City’s largest public works project.
  • Represented AstraZeneca on the international aspects of its $2.7 billion acquisition of Bristol-Myers Squibb’s interests in the companies’ diabetes alliance, covering 45 jurisdictions.
  • Advised the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) and the Economic Cities Authority on legal and regulatory reform, governance, and licensing and outsourcing agreements.
  • Represented Chemtrade Logistics Inc. on the regulatory aspects of its $860 million cross-border acquisition of General Chemical Corp.
  • Represented Wilmington Trust, as trustee and agent, in over $570 million worth of bond issuances and credit facilities.
  • Represented Rabobank in the structuring of a $205 million receivables purchase facility for the Rock-Tenn Company.
  • Represented a Gulf company in US sub-contracting negotiations for regional government supply tenders.
  • Advised state-owned mining entity on impacts of proposed UN guidelines.
  • Represented Wells Fargo in connection with Federal Reserve investigation of mortgage lending practices.

Pro Bono

  • Represents several charitable organizations in formation of 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporations.
  • Represented Asian Law Caucus as amicus curiae in asylum seeker’s challenge to immigration decision before the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
  • Represented New York state prisoner challenging parole denials before the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
  • Represented artist in settlement of building disputes regarding tenancy, property ownership and co-op issues.
