Sinead McLaughlin has a broad commercial disputes practice, with a particular focus on financial services and crisis management. Her work has often required her to work across a range of practice areas, carrying out internal investigations, advising clients in relation to investigations by regulators and other authorities, and acting in any subsequent disputes or litigation which may arise. This work has included defending clients in relation to allegations of market abuse, systems and controls failings and financial reporting.

  • Advising a major investment bank in relation to an FCA investigation in relation to breaches of reporting rules and systems and controls failings.
  • Advising a professional services firm in relation to a significant data breach which included conducting an internal investigation and advising the firm on potential regulatory implications and on litigation risk.
  • Lead associate advising News Corporation in relation to all matters arising out of the “phone hacking” scandal which included defending NGN in large group litigation brought by claimants in the High Court in England for misuse of their private information.

Pro Bono

  • Acted for the Aire Centre (legal charity specializing in Human Rights law) in its intervention in the Calais Children’s case at the Court of Appeal.
  • Disability Law Service - coordinated program for legal support at the DLS.
