Kanu Song’s civil litigation practice focuses on complex commercial disputes, including intellectual property matters and class actions. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Song clerked for Judge William Alsup of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, specializing in intellectual property and other civil litigation.

  • Representing client in civil action involving patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, breach-of-contract, unfair competition, and related claims.
  • Representing media company in putative class action involving federal and state privacy laws.
  • Representing client in patent infringement action involving semiconductor technologies; successfully defeated motion to transfer.
  • Represented technology company in commercial arbitration involving breach-of-contract and fraud claims; secured a favorable settlement shortly after the close of fact discovery.
  • Represented electronics company in civil action involving trademark infringement and unfair competition claims; successfully moved to dismiss all claims, after which the plaintiff voluntarily dropped the case in the face of a second motion to dismiss.   
  • Represented technology company in putative class action involving state law interference and unfair competition claims; twice obtained dismissal of all claims at the pleading stage.
  • Represented pharmaceutical company in commercial arbitration involving trade secret misappropriation and related claims; obtained complete defense victory.

Pro Bono

  • Representing nonprofit organization in filing amicus brief in support of domestic violence survivor’s appeal from an order of the Juvenile Dependency Court.
  • Represented minor and parent in civil action for violation of Constitutional rights in connection with unlawful detention; secured a favorable settlement (pending final approval) shortly before the close of fact discovery.
