Melissa Van Schoorisse

Melissa Van Schoorisse is a special counsel who focuses on a wide range of complex antitrust issues, including multi-jurisdictional merger control filings, international and Belgian cartel investigations, state aid matters, and general behavioral advice, counselling and compliance work.
Ms. Van Schoorisse has represented international and Belgian clients from a wide variety of industries, including the transport, media, consumer goods, power generation and energy fields.
Ms. Van Schoorisse has - prior to joining Covington - gained extensive experience as an associate at two international law firms in Brussels, and as a secondee to the in-house competition team of a multinational oil and gas company in London, dealing with a wide array of vertical issues, cartel investigations, M&A transactions, and compliance training.
- Represented a consumer products manufacturer before the Belgian Competition Authority and the Court of Appeal in a cartel investigation, leading to the first Belgian settlement decision.
- Representing PSA Antwerp in a wide array of matters, including a cartel investigation before the Belgian Competition Authority and the Court of Appeal, interventions in several proceedings before national courts, as well as transactional matters.
- Representing a Fortune Global 10 energy and petrochemical company in a cartel investigation before the European Commission.
- Representing a client in a Belgian price-fixing cartel investigation.
- Representing the Belgian State in a state aid matter relating to the financial services sector.
- Representing a global bank in ongoing investigations into the financial sector.
- Advised a Fortune Global 500 tyre manufacturer in its acquisition of a tyre wholesaler.
- Advised De Persgroep in its acquisition of the Sanoma magazines, leading to a conditional Phase I clearance decision.
In addition to the above, Melissa Van Schoorisse has also advised several third party complainants during Belgian and European merger investigations, including appeal proceedings.
Finally, Ms. Van Schoorisse has also assisted on several additional cartel investigations before each of the European Commission and the Belgian competition authority in the glass, flour, transport, computer hardware, and other sectors.
